I got this error when I tried to install the Windows 10 Technical Preview on my Surface.
I had 31 updates for Windows 8.1 plus the Windows 10 installation selected in the Windows Update list and the update fails with error code 8024004C. “Get help with this error” was useless, there is no information about this error in the Microsoft help unfortunately.
I surfed the web for the code and stumbled upon this post, First Surface RT Update-Error 8024004C , which gave me the idea to select and install the Win 8.1 updates first, restart and finally install Windows 10. This fixed the problem and charging the tablet to 100% helps too.
