Active leisure activities in my home town

I visited my family last week and jumped at the opportunity to do some sports outside when the weather was nice. I was often at these places as I was small and it is nice to re-visit them again every time when I come back to my home town.

Cornesti Plateau and the Zoo

Located at the highest elevation of the city, the Plateau opens a wide view over the city and river Mures valley. It was recently rebuilt, it is continuously improved and is now a beautiful place to spend time outdoors in the summer. The zoo is one of the main attractions here, there is also a huge playground for kids in the middle of the park and the grownups can exercise on the jogging trail that leads through the woods or at the outdoor gym where machines are available. I had a great running session here last week. 🙂

“Muresul” recreational and sports complex

This recreational and sports complex is one of the biggest outdoor facilities in the country and I’ve spent many summers here in the swimming pools, on the beach, at the playgrounds and on the sports fields. Sports activities include tennis, basketball, football, volleyball, mini-football, and now new a calisthenics park. This is where I learned to play tennis. 🙂

Bicycling

We went biking in the city on one of the warmer days last week and I can’t really recommend it. The streets are narrow, the cars are driving by fast and too close to the bicyclists. Worst of all are the big trucks that have no regard for bicyclists. Nevertheless we survived the bike tour and found some nice places where cars are not allowed and not many people walk there.

The most beautiful bike path is on the banks of the Mures river. It is a 42 km long route for cyclists located in the segment Reghin – Targu Mures, with many rest places, indicators for direction and panels with information on biodiversity and area attractions. This route is available in Open Cyclemap and I plan to try it in the near future.
