It’s been a few weeks since I started using the foam roller and I am extremely happy with it. Even though foam rolling can be painful, it only takes 5-10 minutes and the benefits are so worth it. I noticed a definite improvement in my running performance and also reduced muscle soreness.
I am almost convinced that foam rolling does more than just that, research shows that it also helps:
- Prevent injuries by massaging and repairing the muscles, loosening the tight muscles
- Improve flexibility and mobility
- Strengthen the core and arm muscles: when the lower body rests on the foam roller, the arms are getting stronger by having hold the upper body and the abs have to work extra hard by moving the lower body forward and backward on the foam roller
- Reduce cellulite by massaging the trouble areas: foam rolling these areas regularly improves the blood circulation and the skin texture
I am also very happy with my decision to buy the Black Orange Standard foam roller which comes with a dvd and an exercise sheet. I first thought that 30 cm would be perhaps too small but it’s actually the right size for every kind of exercise and, laugh all you want, but I did not fall off it once.
When I bought my foam roller, I also ordered a pair of compression socks. I’ve been wearing them after each run for 1-2 hours. They are tight but comfortable and my calfs feel so much better after a workout.
If I skipped foam rolling and wearing the compression socks for a few days (due to being in a hurry most of the times), the calf muscle soreness returned so I will definitely continue to use both the foam roller and the compression socks regularly.
