When a geek goes on vacation

Summer is finally here and that means that like every year we are heading to the seaside again! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Everything happened very last minute. We knew only 2 weeks in advance when we will be able to take vacation and we waited until only a few days before actually going to decide where we are going. We decided to take 3,5 weeks which is definitely a first. Usually I take 1-2 weeks but this time we combined our 10-year anniversary with my bf’s birthday and came up with the idea to go away for a longer time.

We’ve been to Croatia many times before and we both love it. I was thinking about going to visit some new places, even more far away than in Europe, but I didn’t want to fly for over a day and also the timing is not right. When it is summer in Europe, it is not summer where I wanted to go. Plus some people that know me said that those exotic places might not be for me because I hate bug and spiders and snakes. So after thinking for a some time we decided to drive to Croatia once again.

I was considering a villa with pool or a luxury apartment since we were staying for 3 weeks. I love staying in hotels but I am not a fan of breakfast until 10, cleaning lady burging in the room and all those buffet meals where I always grab an extra plate of food and come back home with a few extra kilos. We searched for villas with pool and apartments and eventually booked a lovely 40 sqm apartment at Falkenstener Residence Sonia. The advantage of an apartment is that we are free, free to eat when and what we want. We plan to live a healthy fit lifestyle in the next 3 weeks. We still get cleaning once a week which was mandatory for me since I want to relax and don’t want to be the cleaning lady during my vacation. There are some obvious disadvantages too, like having to go to the grocery store and keeping the apartment clean-ish when the cleaning lady is not coming but we said that we will try and see how it goes.

So here we are, just a few minutes before getting into the car and driving towards Croatia. I packed my bags yesterday and yes, it took me whole day. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Gadgets when traveling are esential for me. I packed my notebook for the occasional coding for fun sessions, tablet, e-book reader, DSLR camera (I often take pictures with my iPhone but the battery gets empty so fast), action camera and accessoires, power bank for on the go and most important the Wlan Router.

Some people may find this strange and my colleagues were shocked, but I exercise on vacation. I simply cannot go away for 3 weeks and not work out. We are walking a lot and swimming but I love to go for runs on the beach and get in a good sweat session in the hotel gym. This time we won’t have access to the hotel’s fitness center because we are in the apartment and the spa access including gym could cost us an arm and a leg. So I am taking a small gym with me. It’s only a few things to boost my strength and functionaly training. I plan to go running as well, on the beach and along the promenade, and I only need running shoes for that. The nearest store and bakery is 15 minutes away in the small town’s center and I can run there to pick up supplies.

Esentially I have a big bag with clothes and workout clothes, a small bag with shoes, a backpack with the gadgets and the camera bag. It barely fit into the car but I am ready for the roadtrip! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ‘
