70-480: Programming in HTML5 with JavaScript and CSS3

I passed the 70-480 Microsoft exam yesterday morning. The section Skills Measured on the exam page describes very well what is covered in this exam and I used the resources described in this post Getting started with HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript to prepare.

These were especially very helpful during the preparation:

But with all the theory must come a lot of practice too. Obviously I can’t say much more about the exam because I signed an NDA but my advice is to learn and practice a lot of HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript, especially the following areas I found rather tricky:

  • CSS selectors and flexbox
  • JavaScript data types, objects, methods and code flow

My impression of this exam was that it was difficult. I got single choice, multiple choice, drop-down and drag & drop questions and as usual the possible answers are so similar that I had to really pay attention to every line, every comma and every point to come up with the right answer. In some cases I just went with the strategy to rule out the answers that are most likely wrong and pick the one which is most likely to be correct from the ones that were left. In the end, all the learning paid off and I was so happy when I saw Congratulations! on the screen. 🙂

I am now one step closer to upgrading my MCPD Web Developer to MCSD Web Apps. One more exam to go! Next up is 70-492: Upgrading your MCPD: Web Developer 4 to MCSD: Web Applications which includes these two exams in one:
