We are staying 3 weeks in a beautiful luxury seaside apartment in Croatia. Directly by the sea, in the heart of the resort, our apartment is 40 square meters, it has a balcony with sea view, and it includes premium services like 24-hour reception, regular cleaning, laundry service, bedding and towel changes, and last but not least 24-hour security services. Entry and exit from the entire resort is through a gate with security.
We have stayed here at this resort a few years ago but that time we were at the hotel Iadera. It was one of my best summer seaside vacations. This time we decided to return here but instead of staying in the hotel, which is way too expensive, we booked this apartment. It is the first time that we spend our summer vacation in an apartment and so far we love it.
There are a lot of advantages of renting our own apartment. First of all it is much cheaper. Second we are not bound to a schedule for breakfast and dinner. We eat what we want whenever we want. The apartment is much bigger than the hotel room, it includes a living area with kitchen (including stow, fridge, dishwasher, microwave with grill, coffee machine, toaster, pans, plates, cutlery) and a bedroom with a huge closet, two bathrooms, a storage room, fully furnished with TV and much more. The cleaning staff does not bother us every day, I mean do we really need the room cleaned every day or are we just that spoiled and lazy? With that said the apartment is cleaned regularly (just not every day, although daily cleaning can be booked additionally). It is important to me because I don’t want to spend my vacation cleaning and cooking. 😛
The 24-hour reception is definitely one of the top advantages. Whenever we need something, we can just ask and it gets done. Do we need fresh towels? Bed linens have to be changed? Exchange money with the local currency? Directions? Recommendations? Reservations at restaurants? Everything we need is only a phone call away.
Living in the apartment, we have access to two pools and the entire beach. We can use the spa at the hotels in the resort for extra charge. There are numerous sport and leisure activities in the resort, like beach volleyball, basketball, bicycle rental and so on. I often go running along the promenade early in the morning.
Last but not least we have free wifi all over the resort and it is super-fast. 🙂
The clear disadvantage is having to go to the grocery shopping, obviously not ideal for someone who doesn’t like it and would prefer walking down to a buffet for breakfast and dinner. Senia offers half-pension with breakfast and dinner buffet and the resort also includes two restaurants, a steak house and a fish restaurant. I personally don’t mind grocery shopping, actually I love to check out all the local foods and to go to the farmer’s market to buy fresh fruits and vegetables. The bakery is also close by so we pick up fresh bread every morning.
The resort is located only 10 minutes away by car from the nearest grocery store and we drove there this morning to buy all the essential for breakfast and lunch which will last us at least for a week. For dinner we will spontaneously decide whether to quickly whip up a salad or boil some pasta or go out to one of the restaurants at the resort. Alternatively the center of Petrcane is only 15 minutes on foot along the promenade so we will be dining out in the small town center often as well.
I have lived in many hotels. I have rented apartments from private persons several times. Premium living is a good mix of both. We have the freedom of living in an apartment but with most of the perks of living in a hotel.
Tips:
- Taxi to Zadar costs 230 kuna if called by the reception but it’s normal price is 180 kuna.
